  Biplane Ride over Sedona

We arrived at the airport atop a mesa in Sedona at 4:30pm, just before closing time. Cindy and Dave had already ridden in the biplane once before, in July, 2002, (see Cindy and Dave's biplane ride) and were content to wait on the ground and take photos of Millie, Ralph, Kay and Lyle when they went up. Millie and Ralph were first and flew in the yellow plane, piloted by James, the same pilot that had given Cindy and Dave their ride in July. About the time that they returned from their flight, Kay and Lyle took off in the red biplane.

The biplane rides over Sedona are provided by Red Rock Biplane Tours who fly all new (mid-90's) Super Waco biplanes. These planes are uniquely equipped to take two passengers seated side by side in the front, with the pilot sitting behind. Tours range from 10 minutes on up.

The relatively late hour of the biplane flights provided spectacular views for the passengers, as the red rock country really comes alive in the evening light.

The biplane rides and subsequent drive back to Phoenix marked the end of a fun road trip. On the next day we would walk up Shaw Butte, a local Phoenix mountain, to watch the sunset and city lights of Phoenix. Proceed to our Shaw Butte page for more photos.
